Ring Tones is a drama devised by the group, set at the beginning of the new millennium.  This play is inspired by the themes of family, communication, and the links which can exist between personal and public events. As the drama moves from family and workplace scenes, which are all too familiar and recognisable, to moments we would all find hard to imagine.

 Using the play by Robin Soans, ‘Talking to Terrorists’ as a stimulus to work  with real life interviews and create a piece of verbatim theatre, the Pro-teens  take on their biggest challenge to date in a devised piece that questions the  importance of resolving terrorism not with violence or conflict, but with  negotiations and peaceful discussions.

Will the Little Pigs manage to stay in their house or will they be made into  pigskin handbags…? Will the wolf manage to eat Grandma or will he end up as  Little Red Riding Hood’s new winter coat?
Join the Pro-Pellers as they perform a selection of Roald Dahl’s twisted  re-workings of classic fairy tales from his book ‘Revolting Rhymes’.  As well as  performing these classic stories the group will also be performing their own  stories created during their weekly devising workshops.

Following the success of Les Miserables, Hair, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Tommy, Footloose and last year Jesus Christ Superstar,  the performing arts department will be presenting Cy Coleman and Dorothy Field’s musical, Sweet Charity. The musical follows the romantic ups-and-downs of dancer-for-hire, Charity Hope Valentine, in the Fan-Dango Ballroom.  This Tony Award winning musical features many big band numbers such as Big Spender, The Rhythm of Life and If My Friends Could See Me Now.

Joe Orton’s Farce was originally a television play written in 1965 and rewritten in 1967 for the stage.
In this, ‘… his version of The Bacchae, a fun palace revolution set in a Butlin’s holiday resort – ‘Erpingham Camp’ – ‘nobody came closer than Orton to reviving on the English stage the outrageous and violent prankster spirit of comedy…….’ John Lahr.

The second year acting diploma students present Shakespeare’s magical fantasy play, using physical theatre and “steam punk” to underpin the narrative.  This famous mismatch in love includes the six labourers, “rude mechanicals”, who attempt to put on a play to celebrate the nuptials of their King, Theseus; the Fairyland lovers, Titania and Oberon, wage war with each other, using the forces of nature over the possession of an Indian boy and the four young Athenian lovers fall in and out of love as they traverse the forest.

THE ENQUIRY

An intense drama about a prisoner sentenced for killing her very sick child.  Set in an  open prison of the 1950s, she is attacked and driven to attempt suicide.  The prison  authorities discover that the attack was made by an inmate Gow who has a lesbian  attachment to another prisoner, Valentine, and who is insanely jealous of Kate’s  innocent friendship with Valentine.  By the end of the play the question over the death  of the child is investigated and the truth revealed.

 The first year extended diplomas present Feydeau’s hirlarious farce.  Boniface arrives at the Hotel   Paradiso to meet Marcelle; Maxime has been enticed there by an enterprising and amorous   maidservant; Cot goes there to investigate the strange noises which he is convinced emanate from  the drains.  In order to avoid extremely compromising confrontations, everyone spends the entire  night dashing up and down the stairs, in and out of beds in a crescendo of hilarious chaos which is  made  even worse by a sudden police raid on the unsavoury hotel.

SHREW This summer join the critically acclaimed Proteans for Shakespeare's ultimate   battle of the sexes. The gloves are off and the heat is on in this wildly funny,  fast,  furious and swooningly romantic tale of a man, a woman and one heck of   a temper!
 The show will again be performed outdoors at The Walled Garden, Down  Grange  - so make sure to bring a picnic! Following last year's sell out 'Love's  Labour's Lost'  tickets for this year's fortnight of performances are certain to go  quickly so get in  early to avoid disappointment!
 Once again, The Proteans are praying for a fantastic summer as they present  this  outdoor production, were you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy  before the  show and to stay afterwards to dance under the stars with cast  members.  Wear  comfortable shoes, bring some warmer clothes for when the  sun goes down, and bring your brolly, just in case it rains!! Proteus will be  providing a limited amount of folded chairs, however we advise audience members to bring their own to guarantee a seat!
