James entered Queen Mary’s College in
1978 (the year that Central Studio was opened) and is presenting a Masterwork

Beethoven`s perennially favourite
piano sonata quasi una fantasia highlights the themes of fantasy and the
night that will be present through the three programmes of Masterworks.
Chopin`s radical and disturbing Sonata and the late Nocturnes provide a fitting
tribute at the close of the composer`s bicentennial year.
James Lisney is joined by two of the
country’s leading chamber musicians for a performance of Schubert`s Trio in E
flat (the slow movement made famous by the film ‘Barry Lyndon’), one of the
most exhilarating and powerful of chamber works.

start with a performance of Tchaikovsky`s Rococo Variations at the Basingstoke
Anvil.
